FOXFIRE MUSEUM
Visitors can now be a part of an era of Appalachian Mountains lifestyle by visiting the Foxfire Museum in Mountain City, Georgia. http://www.foxfire.org/museum.html Admission to the gift shop is free. Admission to the museum is $5.00.

The popularity of Foxfire through the Foxfire books became a phenomenon that spread far beyond Georgia. Foxfire 12 is the latest addition to the series of books.

The Foxfire series continues to be amazing with its simplicity and expansive documentation of the Appalchian Georgia Mountain lifestyle.

The Foxfire Museum showcases how simple Appalachian life was. A visit to the Foxfire Museum will help you to appreciate the conveniences of modern day living versus the difficulties of old time living.  Take a step back in Appalachian Mountains times.
When you visit the Foxifre Museum, you will experience a snapshot of what early mountaineer life was like when the Appalachian Mountains were settled over 200 years ago.  The Foxfire Museum possesses an amazing collection of over 20 historic log cabins and replicas of traditional log construction designs, with some of the authentic structures dating back to the early 1800s.
Buildings at the Foxfire Museum include a chapel, blacksmith shop, mule barn, wagon shed, single-room home, gristmill, smokehouse, and cabins. Be sure to see a wagon that was used in the Trail of Tears,  the forced removal of the Cherokees from the North Georgia Mountains to Oklahoma.
The cabins also contain household and farming artifacts and crafts that were needed in early Appalachian life, including toys, wagons, cabin-building tools, blacksmithing instruments, woodworking tools, handmade items, household items, logging tools, shoemaking equipment, animal trapping and hunting equipment, and farm and agricultural equipment. Visit the gift shop filled with folk art, handcrafted items, toys, and historical books, including The Foxfire Book series, is located in the Gate House, the first log cabin you'll see on Foxfire Lane.
