Tubing on Mountaintown Creek is very popular with the guests at the cabins so there is no need to go far from your vacation cabin for whitewater tubing and fun. However, if you desire to seek out other rivers, you won't have to go very far. The Coosawattee River and Cartecay River, both just minutes away in Ellijay, offer tubing fun. We recommend an exciting whitewater rafting trip adventure on the Ocoee River.
Tubing, canoeing and kayaking are all fun water activities in Ellijay. Just over the Tennessee state line, whitewater rafting on the Ocoee River offer thrills and excitement. Rent a sit-on-top kayak for kayaking on the Cartecay River or you can rent or buy tubes to go tubing on the Cartecay River. FREE TUBING ON THE CARTECAY RIVER! Buy a River Rat tube from Wal-Mart (under $10) or rent one from the Cartecay Water Shed. Cartecay River Shed offers free parking, restrooms, changing rooms and river access, as well as free pick up at the take out point (donations accepted to help pay for gas). Tubing on the Coosawattee River is offered by the Coosawattee River Tubing Company which supplies the tube, life vest, changing rooms, and shuttle service to and from the river for an admission price.

Year round rentals for canoes, kayaks, tubes (you can also buy a tube from the huge selection at Walmart) and funyaks on the Cartecay River are available at Cartecay Water Shed nearby in Ellijay. The Cartecay River is considered to be a good beginner and novice kayaking river with Class II and III whitewater.
Cartecay Water Shed also provides, in addition to rentals, shuttle service, guides and instruction.

OCOEE RIVER WHITEWATER RAFTING
The Ocoee Whitewater Center, just over the state line in Tennessee, only 12 miles from Blue Ridge, GA, was the location of the 1996 Summer Olympics canoe, kayak and slalom events. World class whitewater earned the Ocoee River rapids international attention during the television viewing of the 1996 Olympic Canoe and Kayak competition. There are numerous operating whitewater rafting companies who provide guided rafting trips wild and scenic section of the Ocoee River for a thrilling experience that you won't forget.
Just a short drive out of Blue Ridge, the Ocoee Whitewater Center is located on Hwy. 64 north of McCaysville. Visit the Ocoee Whitewater Visitor Center for exhibits and special events. Stroll over the bridge and enjoy the views. Trails for hiking on historic and nature are available. Walk along the walkways, see native and medicinal plants and enjoy the Olympic spirit garden. Cool off, explore and wade in clear, calm pools of water including Ole Blue Hole, a favorite of locals, formed by the rocks in the channel. Climb big boulders, soak in sparkling pools, sunbathe on the rocks. Have a picnic on a table under the cooling shade trees on the Ocoee River, or just enjoy the Ocoee River view and all the activities from the rocking chairs on the back deck at the Ocoee Whitewater Center. Directions to the Ocoee Whitewater Center: from Ellijay, take GA 515 north. In Blue Ridge, drive GA 5 north to McCaysville,and cross over the bridge to Copperhill, TN. Turn left on Tennessee Highway 68. In Ducktown, take U. S. 64 west to the Ocoee Whitewater Center on the left.
Whitewater rafting, is offered by a numerous private whitewater rafting outfitters in the Ocoee River area. Guided whitewater rafting trips and kayaking with commercial rafting companies on thrilling Class III and IV rapids are available and will give you a thrilling adventure trip on the Ocoee River.

The whitewater rafting season on the Ocoee River is from April to October, when controlled releases of water from the Lake Blue Ridge dam increase the flow of the water on the Toccoa and Ocoee Rivers. The Toccoa River becomes the Ocoee River at the Tennessee State Line.
Even if you don't want to experience the thrill of whitewater rafting, it is just as exciting to park the car beside the Ocoee river and watch the rafts as they pass by.

located on the Cartecay River for an easy and thrilling family ride on the Cartecay River, a short distance outside of Ellijay on the way to Amicalola Falls State Park. The Cartecay River is very safe for beginner and novice kayaking with Class II and an occasional Class III whitewater after a good rain.

Access the Cartecay River upstream on Lower Cartecay Road and float for an hour long, 2.5 mile trip, on the Cartecay River until you take out at the Blackberry Falls covered bridge at Blackberry Mountain off Mulkey Rd. This location offers easy in and out access to the Cartecay River and is usually where the shuttle will pick you up.

TUBING TRIPS ON THE OCOEE RIVER
If whitewater rafting is too much adventure for you and your family , several companies offer mild adventure tubing on the flat water section of the Lower Ocoee River. Cool off on a hot summer day. Enjoy the scenery as the banks of the Ocoee slide by. Whatever your reason, this mild adventure, safe enough for even couch potatoes on the lower Ocoee River has been a favorite of many guests.
Enjoy tubing on the mild lower section of the Ocoee River. You can put in your tubes at Sugarloaf Mountain Park. From there, you can lay back in your tube, float along the Ocoee River. Several companies in the area offer guided tubing trips on this lower "slower" section of the Ocoee River. Or you can do your own trip.
Transportation to the put-in, tubes and lifejackets are furnished.
Tubing the Lower Ocoee River is subject to cancellation depending upon water release from the dam.

TUBING AND RAFTING ON THE TOCCOA RIVER
Float and relax on very gentle, easy water on the Toccoa River filled with colorful inner tubes, rafts, funyaks and canoes for a cool and refreshing float trip. The entire family can make it a fun filled day. Rolling Thunder drops you off up the river and you float down to their outpost in McCaysville where you can enjoy a hot shower before changing into dry clothes. Tubing trips can range from 1 hour to 4 hours. Canoe trips can take a half day or a full day. Water release schedules vary so please call for details.
Float down the Toccoa River on a tube and enjoy the cool, clean water. Tube rentals are available as well as transportation to pick you up at the end of your ride at the
Toccoa Valley Campground, 10 miles out Aska Road.

CHESTATEE AND ETOWAH RIVER
A short drive east to Dahlonega from Ellijay will take you to the Chestatee and Etowah Rivers for canoe, kayak and tubing trips with Appalachian Outfitters.
Appalachian Outfitters offers a short 45 minute but fun tubing float on the Chestatee River, just outside of Dahlonega. Canoe and kayaking trips are also available from Appalachian Outftters.

HIWASSEE RIVER TUBING TRIPS
Try a slow relaxing float down the beautiful Hiwassee River! There is no experience necessary for this tame adventure. This is a vey cooling river trip on a hot summer day.
